Windsurf Cascade auffrischen: Update, neuer Chat, zweite Repo-Aufgabe

Update, neuer Cascade-Chat, zweites prüfbares Diff im Repo.

If Windsurf Cascade feels slow, context feels stale, or shortcuts broke after an upgrade, you usually do not need a full reinstall. Update the editor, start a new Cascade chat, and land a second reviewable task in a repo you own.

The query is how to refresh Windsurf Cascade workflow. This page follows official update and Cascade notes at windsurf.com and docs.devin.ai/windsurf. It is for people who already signed in; first install is in our Windsurf Cascade install guide. To walk a diff on a short call, open a room on wbmeet; see how to create and join a room.

When to refresh instead of reinstalling

Windsurf ships desktop updates; Cascade defaults, models, and credits can change with the build. Refresh when an old thread still cites deleted files, the panel diff disagrees with disk, or Cmd/Ctrl+L stops working after an upgrade. Try update → restart → new chat → reopen the folder before wiping the app.

Three steps to refresh Cascade

  1. 1

Update Windsurf to the current build

Use Help → Check for Updates (or the equivalent in current docs). Quit fully and reopen so no old process holds the extension host. On Linux, stick to one install channel (package manager vs official .deb/.rpm).

  2. 2

    Start a new Cascade session

Open New Chat in the Cascade panel—do not keep issuing orders in last week’s long thread. On large trees, use @ to scope files or folders. If paths still look wrong, close the folder and File → Open Folder on the repo root again.

  3. 3

    Run a second reviewable task

In Write mode, be concrete: “Given current git status, add a unit test for one untested helper; show the diff and wait for Accept.” Read git diff before Accept All. Do not paste secrets or .env into the first message after refresh.

01

Refresh ≠ random cache wipe

Prefer official updates and a new chat. Deleting app data may drop login—sign out/in is safer first.

02

Keep the second task small

After refresh, do not “refactor the module.” One test or one validation proves Cascade is healthy again.

03

Credits and models

Model lists and billing can change after an update—trust in-app settings and official pricing.

Suggested order: Check for Updates → restart → New Cascade Chat → git status → one small diff → optional huddle to explain the change.

Terminal agents refresh differently. See Cursor CLI Agent and GitHub Copilot CLI.

Questions worth checking

Do I have to uninstall to refresh?

Usually no. Official update, new Cascade chat, and reopening the folder are enough. Reinstall only as a last resort from windsurf.com.

Can I keep executing an old plan thread?

Copy highlights into a new chat. Do not let Write keep running against an outdated file list.

Write touched too many files after refresh?

Skip Accept All. Use git restore on uncommitted changes, narrow @ scope, try again.

Enterprise blocks updates?

Follow IT-managed builds; Cascade features may be limited by org policy.
