   TIME, citing people familiar with the changes, reported that comms, legal, and marketing will merge with Google, and that some safety and readiness reporting lines may move — though others said nothing is finalized. A Google spokesperson told TIME that frontier-model safety “changes absolutely nothing” and has lived inside Kavukcuoglu’s Gemini team from the start.

Gemini delays: 3.5 Pro stuck, Flash ships first

Gemini 3, in November 2025, was widely read as Google closing the gap. At I/O on 19 May 2026, Pichai previewed Gemini 3.5 Pro; public trackers put the first general window in June. By early August the flagship was still missing from the public API catalog and pricing pages, while lighter Flash models continued to ship. Bloomberg and others tied the slip to coding and related internal bars. Google has also talked about progress on newer models, including Gemini 4 — without a date anyone can check.
